Renewing My Mind: Day 5

on May 9, 2014

Do not conform to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind.

       ~ Romans 12:2

Today’s reading in Simple Blessings covered the blessing of hope.  Hope is such a beautiful word.  It is a word that gets thrown around very casually as well.  Most often we use it as a verb, an action, to hope for something.  In that context, hope (according to the Merriam Webster dictionary) means:  to want something to happen or be true and think that it could happen or be true. Such as: “I hope it doesn’t rain tomorrow.”  While I am not saying that there is anything wrong with using the word hope in this way, I do feel that many of us miss a very valuable understanding of real Hope.

Real HOPE is a noun, a PERSON – to be more exact.   We believers of the Lord Jesus don’t just hope for something, we also have a Hope.

Let’s see what God’s Word says about this topic.  First of all, let’s look at the idea of being hopeful for something:

Hebrews 6:10 God is not unjust; he will not forget your work and the love you have shown him as you have helped his people and continue to help them. 11 We want each of you to show this same diligence to the very end, so that what you hope for may be fully realized.

Now, more important than having hope in something …. more important that having a desire for something, is to actually have a hope.  And as Believers, we DO:

Hebrews 6:19 We have this hope as an anchor for the soul, firm and secure. It enters the inner sanctuary behind the curtain, 20 where our forerunner, Jesus, has entered on our behalf.

There are many verses about hope in the Bible.  The point I am trying to make is this.  Hope is not just a desire for something.  Hope is a person.  Hope is the person of Jesus Christ, our Lord.  We don’t just hope for better things to come, Jesus IS our HOPE.  This is part of His identity.  To have Jesus in your life is to have HOPE, no matter how dire your circumstances might look.  You have hope.  That is a big deal for someone going through a seemingly impossible situation.  It means the world to a person who has walked the majority of their life apart from Christ.  This person comes to Christ and suddenly the void of hopelessness lifts, and HOPE takes over.  It is an amazing gift – this gift of Hope!  And it comes freely by the blood of the Lamb.  Maybe you are in a situation that feels hopeless.  Take heart!  Christ IS HOPE.  If you just ask Him to take the wheel, He will do it!  He will bring Hope into your life in places where you thought hope could never be found.  He will heal you from all your diseases!  He will bind up all your wounds!  He will change your LIFE forever.

Have HOPE!!

Action step for today:  I will share with someone the beautiful reality of Hope.
